The Ontology Engineering Group is at the top-ten of research groups at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). It is based on the School of Computer Science at UPM. Its research areas cover Ontological Engineering, Semantic Web and Linked Data, Semantics in Open Science, and Data-Driven Language Technologies. We have developed applications in a wide range of domains, including knowledge management, environment, e-commerce, job market, funding, geospatial, libraries, etc.

The OEG offers a 12-month contract for the development of ontologies in different domains of smart communities (IoT, health, energy, agriculture, mobility, tourism, buildings)

  • Development of components to support ontology development of smart communities (IoT, health, energy, agriculture, mobility, tourism, buildings)
  • Development of semantic interoperability components in decentralized environments of smart communities (IoT, health, energy, agriculture, mobility, tourism, buildings)
  • Development of data federation, validation and data privacy services of smart communities (IoT, health, energy, agriculture, mobility, tourism, buildings)
  • Participation in tasks related to standardization in smart communities (IoT, health, energy, agriculture, mobility, tourism, buildings)

Required experiencie:

  • The person must have a research profile to work in the field of semantic interoperability from distributed data sources using linked data and semantics. Knowledge of the Internet of Things, the Web of Things paradigm, ontological engineering, federated queries, data discovery, and privacy would be an asset.
  • The person must have proved experience in the development of ontologies and in the use of ontology development tools. The development of ontologies in the domain of IoT would be an asset.
  • The person must have a developer profile with experience and autonomy in the design and development of REST APIs and/or microservices. For the development of these, the person should be an expert in at least one programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, ...) and have knowledge of one or more development frameworks for this kind of services (Spark Java, Spring, Django, Flask, ...).
  • Experience with semantic technologies such as OWL, RDF, RDF Schema, SPARQL, and Linked Data is a must.
  • Teamwork skills, initiative, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a multinational and multidisciplinary team will be an asset.
