PROJECT: INESData: Infraestructura para la Investigación de ESpacios de DAtos distribuidos en UPM

ABOUT US: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is Spain´s largest technological university, and an influential European institution of higher education, covering all engineering fields and architecture. More than 2,400 researchers carry out their activities at the UPM, grouped in more than 200 Research Groups, 20 Research Centers and Institutes and 55 Laboratories, committed to transform knowledge into innovation, applied to the productive sector, and contributing to solve the challenges of the European citizens. UPM is recognized as one of the best 75 world´s top universities in engineering and architecture, ranking among the 94 best in the world in terms of employability. As for its presence in European research and innovation activities, UPM is the first university in terms of participation in the European Framework Programme, with more than 116M euros from Horizon 2020. UPM is also an institution committed to the transfer of knowledge to society and to supporting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations General Assembly. In conclusion, UPM is open to anyone who wants to learn, research, and share their talent in any of our institution branches of knowledge.

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 8

CONTEXT AND MISSION: Two UPM research centres are involved in the INESData project: The Information Processing and Telecommunications Center (IPTC) and the Research Center on Artificial Intelligence AI.NNOVATION SPACE. In particular, candidates would join the GATV research team (https://www.gatv.ssr.upm.es/index.php/en/) at the Telecommunications Engineering School or the Ontology Engineering Group (OEG) (https://oeg.fi.upm.es/) at the Computer Engineering School of UPM.

INESData - Infraestructura para la INvestigación de ESpacios de DAtos distribuidos en UPM - Infrastructure for the Investigation of Distributed Data Spaces at UPM is a project funded the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation under the umbrella of the UNICO I+D CLOUD programme in the context of the PRTR project (funded by NextGenerationEU), with a total budget of 5M€. INESData aims to create one of the first incubators of data spaces in Spain. It will setup the governance schemes and the technical infrastructure needed for the deployment of data spaces in a varied set of domains.

In the context of this exciting project, several building blocks will be deployed to support data space generation (identity provider, metadata broker, app store, clearing house, vocabulary provider, connectors, ontology maintenance services, data collection and sharing services, knowledge graph generation and maintenance services, natural language processing services based on language models, language resources, cloud-edge distribution and computing services, and much more). Furthermore, a Data Space Support Center will be put in place for Spanish organisations interested in setting up data sharing models in specific domains (following GAIA-X, IDSA, FIWARE and BDVA principles, and the upcoming SIMPL middleware).

Of particular interest will be the creation of a language data space for all languages in Spain, and at least three domain-specific data spaces in the domains of mobility, procurement and media. We expect this Data Space Support Center to incubate data spaces in additional domains in the upcoming years. To achieve our mission, we are now hiring. If you would like to involve in this high-impact initiative as well as a be part of this thriving research and engineering environment, please send your CV to ofertas@delicias.dia.fi.upm.es
